About the Therapist
Lucy Richard is a Registered Massage Therapist with MTANS. She graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in May of 2017, with honours. Some conditions she has had much success in treating are headaches, jaw dysfunction, and referring pain stemming from muscular trigger points. She has had advanced training in treating jaw dysfunction. Her approach to treating is one of balance. While it is true that sometimes some pain during a treatment can be beneficial, it should also be totally within your limits. Pain or discomfort should feel as though it is working for you, and should dissipate rapidly leaving relief and even further relaxation.
Among other training she has also learned Ayurvedic Indian head massage, myofascial cupping, hot and cold jade stone therapy, and massage related to pre- and post- natal care. She is pleased to be able to offer these treatments alongside a regular therapeutic massage. Please know that she also offers direct billing through Telus Health and Blue Cross.
Her journey to becoming an RMT likely started when she was very young. Having trained in Ballet from the ages of 4 to 15, she became very interested in anatomy and body mechanics. She has now returned to practicing ballet as an adult with Cadance Academy!
Since graduating from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in May of 2017 she has developed her own unique style and approach to massage therapy. During school she received further training while practicing in two specialized clinic placements, one in chronic pain and arthritis treatment, and the other in pre and post natal massage. (And she also has a cushion that allows pregnant people to lay face down!) Her post graduate training so far includes an advanced course in treating jaw dysfunction, myofascial cupping therapy, jade stone massage and Indian Ayurvedic head massage, to name a few. Her approach to treatment involves really listening to you and your body and being able to tailor a treatment to be exactly what you need.
Her interests and hobbies aromatherapy, and practicing yoga and ballet help further her passion for massage therapy, as well as other complementary professions. She believes in taking a holistic approach, taking into consideration all aspects of a person and their lifestyle. She also likes to help recommend other professionals when needed or possible. She is very passionate when it comes to educating her patients, whether it be about homecare, posture, safety and ergonomics, or keeping them well informed on her observations about their body and plans for treatments. This passion carries over when it comes to her own education, as she’s always ready to learn new techniques and treatments to be able to help more people.
